*NEW* EVOLVE GRASSROOTS FUNdamentals with Coach Nick
Mini- League Bilingual Program
Evolve is excited to announce their new GRASSROOTS FUNdamentals Mini-League. In this program athletes will explore movement and fundamental skills for success in basketball. They will work on 25-30 minutes of age appropriate body stability/control, locomotor skills, and manipulative skills that will be practiced in a fun and engaging learning environment. Following the skill development portion of the session, teams will be split-up into teams in order to engage in age appropriate game play for 25-30 minutes.
The purpose of this program is for kids to get an introduction or improvement in skills for future success in basketball. This will help kids build their confidence and evolve into promising young athletes in a variety of sports.
This program will be offered in a bilingual learning environment. French and English will be used to explain concepts in order to further foster the development of the game of basketball in the French community in Winnipeg. All English, French and Bilingual speakers will be set up for success.
The program will be led by our Program Director and Head Coach of Central Canada Prep Nicholas Lother. Nicholas Lother has been involved in the basketball community in Winnipeg for over 20 years. He was the Head Coach of the Varsity Boys Basketball Program at Vincent Massey Collegiate from 2013-2018. During that time he led the Trojans to a Provincial Championship in 2018. Nicholas has also Head Coached the U17 and U15 Provincial Teams in 2014 and 2016. Since his experience in the Manitoba High School Athletic Association, Nick has developed one of the province’s most successful programs with Evolve Basketball Development. Evolve has helped many male and female athletes attain their goals of playing post-secondary basketball and has grown to help over 150 athletes find high level basketball programming in the province each year. Nick has also developed a Prep Program called Central Canada Prep who plays in one of our country’s best Prep Leagues out of Toronto, Ontario in the NPH Division 1 Academy League. Nicholas is excited to continue his work with our communities youngest athletes through the GRASSROOTS FUNdamentals - Mini-League.

EVOLVE GRASSROOTS FUNdamentals with Coach Sarah
Evolve is excited to be able to run our grassroots program for another year. Athletes will explore movement and fundamental skills for success in basketball. They will work on body stability/control, locomotor skills, and manipulative skills that will be practiced in a fun and engaging learning environment.
Individual practice time, stations, and simple cooperative fun will be used to introduce and explore the game of basketball.
Athletes will finish the program with a better understanding of how to play the game of basketball as well as the skills needed to play.
The program is lead by Sarah Lundgren. Sarah has been involved in the Manitoba basketball coaching community for over 20 years. She was the head coach of the Varsity Girls Basketball Program at Westwood Collegiate. She has head coached the U15 and U17 girls provincial teams where she won a silver medal at both levels. She was the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Coach of the Year for her efforts with the provincial team. For the past 10 years she has put her focus
into the grassroots development in the basketball community. EVOLVE BASKETBALL DEVELOPMENT BRIDGE THE GAP PROGRAM
Evolve Basketball Development is excited to offer an intensified program for eager and interested student-athletes born in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Our Bridge the Gap Program is looking to bridge the gap between our Grassroots Development Program and our High School aged Club Teams.
The program will consist of 2 practices throughout the week and a game on the weekend. We are hoping to have 20-24 players apart of the roster to be able to create our own house league for those games. The focus of this program is to build skill development and game concepts. With our own house league it will allow us to have the athletes really focus on playing conceptual basketball instead of having to focus on set offences and defences.
The program will run from the beginning of October to the beginning of March. This will give the athletes over 60 hours of instructional time and more than 20 games.
The practices will be held out of Sport for Life and the games will take place at St. Boniface College. The program will mainly run on Tuesday and Thursdays with some Mondays starting in
January. The games will be held on Saturdays.
Female Program Head Coach: Jon Lundgren
Male Program Head Coach: Darren Hardy
